Research Engineer II
The Research Engineer II is responsible for the performance of research and technology development activities leading to the development of new products and processes. This position will work closely with Engineering Managers and project leaders within the Advanced Surgical division's R&D team, based in Denver, CO. The engineer will have immediate opportunities to contribute to new product development with a focus on minimally invasive surgical technologies designed to deliver real benefits to surgeons, hospitals, and their patients. Advanced Surgical Products include Advanced insufflation systems, Advanced energy systems, Electrosurgical units (ESU’s), and Laparoscopic surgical instruments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Solve technical problems and lead research investigations in a cross-functional group setting.
- Assist in building the inhouse knowledge and skills for application to experimental work, clinical research, and product development projects.
- Conduct research to facilitate evaluation of new technologies and testing product design concepts associated with new product development.
- Play an active role in the Design History process during product development with specific responsibility in facilitating verification and validation activities that involve preclinical and tissue testing.
- Assist in the development and implementation of research procedures and test methods.
- Gather input, design experiments, perform testing, summarize, and interpret data. Complete data reduction and analysis using statistical and engineering tools to provide results and feedback from research activities.
- Prepare technical reports, white papers, publications in support of key technologies
- Prepare engineering documentation that help to communicate information to facilitate product development decision making.
- Communication on research project progress and related information.
- Create and improve processes to continuously meet product requirements to develop the foundation for process control.
- Maintain laboratory space and equipment and facilitates distribution of resources as needed
- Outline work proposals, job estimates and vendor coordination.
- Coordinate changes in methods, design, or equipment where necessary.
Qualifications
- Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related technical field
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience. Advanced degree preferred but not required.
- Nice to have : Experience in medical device or biomedical research.
- Experience with preclinical testing, statistical analysis, and good documentation practices required.
- Knowledge of tissue mechanics and the effect of mechanical, thermal impact on tissues preferred.
- Knowledge of appropriate standards and procedures for good laboratory practices.
- Automatically incorporates the applicable quality system elements and regulatory affairs requirements into routine activities.
