The Director of New Products is a strategic product leader and innovator with responsibility for partnering with business executives to launch new businesses and capabilities. This leader will develop a perspective on market unmet needs and work with a cross-functional team to design innovative and differentiated ways to solve market problems and drive growth for the business. They will then drive this design forward into implementation and launch, and ensure cross-functional alignment around a unified roadmap, working closely with sales, operations, technology, marketing, and finance.

This role will be the Product Leader for some of our biggest growth opportunities, working closely with the General Manager(s) of the business(es). Some example priority areas include: 1) Total Cost of Care - benefit management for spend categories like Cardiovascular, DME; includes wide-ranging capabilities such as network development, utilization management, care coordination and member/physician engagement; 2) Payer outsourcing or reimagining key functions such as Utilization Management, Member Enrollment and Retention, and Care Coordination - addressing how we can revitalize these functions and better serve members through tech-first approaches like AI, Digital, or other differentiators. This role will design net new solutions (including both services and technologies) that leverage the footprint and capabilities of our existing businesses to enter the market more quickly, at scale. In addition, there is a focus on mixing internal build capabilities with external partnership or other inorganic opportunities to accelerate market launch at scale.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own New Product for a Top Growth Priority area, developing concepts/products from Ideation through Launch
  • Drive focus and prioritization on Market Opportunities, stemming from unmet needs and large growth opportunities, particularly opportunity spaces and product concepts with potential to drive $100M+ annual revenue in a 3-5 year horizon
  • Develop the business model and business case for investment; keep business and outcomes goals top of mind and cascade to product, investment, feature and roadmap decisions
  • Make recommendations on Build/Buy/Partner and lead execution of that strategy
  • Forge alignment between cross-functional stakeholders in a matrix environment, including General Management, Product, Marketing, Sales, Technology
  • Lead design of innovative Product Concepts, including ideation and definition sessions, market testing and collaboration with Technology functions
  • Lead and mentor other Product professionals, staffed to this role on a Project basis based on need and stage of development
  • Partner with sales and partnerships leaders to identify client and partner opportunities. Build trust and inspire confidence in prospects. Ensure persuasive delivery of information and negotiate win-win agreements
  • Foster teamwork, collaboration, innovation, and employee engagement
  • Understand and document macro / micro market trends and competitive threats to drive the Business capability’s strategy and underpin the most important features

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years of professional experience (includes both work experience and applicable graduate degree such as MBA, MHA, MD)
  • 3+ years of healthcare experience
  • 3+ years of functional experience in new product development, product management, consulting, or general management
  • Experience assessing market need and developing solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience bringing new healthcare products to market
  • Demonstrated experience leading senior-level presentations and discussions or workshops
  • Solid people leader who aligns cross-functional teams around a compelling vision and workplan, especially in a matrix organization
  • Solid management, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Strength making data-driven decisions, identifying what data is needed to make decisions
  • Deep understanding of the Healthcare ecosystem including Payors, Providers and regulatory agencies would be an advantage
  • Working knowledge of Optum & UnitedHealth Group

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100.
