POSITION OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

The Laboratory Manager, along with the engineering team, is responsible for facilitating engineering activities through planning, setup and maintenance of Ambient Photonics engineering labs and equipment. Other contributions include planning and execution of electronics re-work, electrical and mechanical assembly, in collaboration with engineering staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning, setup and maintenance of engineering laboratories

  • Planning, setup and maintenance of laboratory equipment

  • Inventory and replenishment of test equipment, tools and materials

  • Interpret block diagrams, schematic, PCB layout and technical instructions

  • Authorship of block diagrams and technical instructions

  • Electrical assembly and re-work of wiring harness

  • Electrical assembly and re-work of printed circuit boards having surface mount components

  • Mechanical assembly using hand tools and power tools

  • Operation of benchtop CNC machines

  • Operation of rapid prototyping machines

  • Operation of laser cutting machines

  • Continuously audit lab and testing activities for adequate safety and hazard protection. Devise and implement new safety protocols as necessary.

  • Lead development of best lab practices to maintain high level of organization and cleanliness

  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to collaborate with others to determine design specifications or details

  • Willingness to get “hands on” for lab build out

  • Ability to work in a dynamic paced environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS & COMPENTENCIES

  • 2+ years’ experience as a Lab Tech/Support Engineer

  • Experience in Lab infrastructure improvement

  • Knowledge in use of standard electronics lab tools including soldering iron, hot-air rework station, stereo microscope, hand tools and sharps

  • Meticulous in organization, quality of work and attention to detail

  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPENTENCIES

  • Relevant work experience in commercial, industrial, or academic environment
