Supplier Quality Engineer

Chandler Industries, a precision machining and sheet metal fabricating company with divisions in Minnesota and Mexico is expanding and looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team!


This position will office out of Minneapolis until we move to our brand-new facility in Blaine, MN in the fall of 2022!


In this role you will be responsible for the management of suppliers. This position will provide technical and compliance expertise for conducting supplier audits, qualifying new suppliers, monitoring the performance of current suppliers, and driving product quality improvements. This position will include support of supplier corrective actions, non-conformance investigations and assessing the capabilities of new suppliers for product development projects.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with assessments of supplier capability and capacity to perform current or potential future work.
  • Conducts audits and assessments of supplier's systems, processes and products based on a pre-determined schedule.
  • Documents and reports audit and assessment results to site management.
  • Initiate and manage Supplier Corrective Actions (SCARs) in partnership with impacted cross-functional groups to ensure complete and effective root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Manage supplier change and deviation requests.
  • Controls assets at suppliers, disposing of obsolete inventory and monitoring the age of others.
  • Provides supplier education and coaching on quality systems, delivery performance, regulatory compliance issues and company initiatives.
  • Resolves routine issues and concerns.
  • Trend data, identify improvement projects, and implement improvements (reduce scrap, improve processes, etc.).
  • Assist supplier in developing a Zero-Defect Plan.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships and effective lines of communication with Suppliers.
  • Keeps internal departments and management appraised of supplier issues and ongoing projects.
  • Assists in maintaining Approved Supplier List (ASL).
  • Assist Supplier with customer flow downs and technical data packages (TDPs).
  • Key contributor to NPI (New Product Introduction) projects in conjunction with engineering, planning, and customer service.
  • Assist in Implementing new supplier selection, transitions, performance measures, relationship improvements. and supply chain projects.
  • Monitor supplier performance and provide supplier program metrics and periodic reports. Provide feedback to suppliers and drive action plans for improvement.
  • Works closely with vendors to assure a positive and professional relationship, always establishing and maintaining open lines of communication.
  • Communicates status to site Quality and Engineering departments as required.
  • Perform Supplier Approval Audits.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s/Technical degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in related field.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a Supplier facing role.
  • Proficient reading, writing, oral communication, and comprehension in English language.
  • Experience reviewing contracts, managing suppliers, and/or experience working with inventory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify gaps and execute resolutions.
  • 3+ years of experience in root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Advanced knowledge of advanced product quality planning (APQP), PPAP, RCCA.
  • Experience in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with aerospace and medical requirements.
  • Fundamental understanding of quality systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is required.
  • Effective facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience interfacing and presenting to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in supplier development.
  • Must be able to work independently and prioritize with limited supervision.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time.
  • This position may require use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All employees must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee.


Additional Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with Epicor
  • Familiarity with ISO13485, AS9100
  • CQE, CQM, CQA certification, or Six Sigma Green Belt is highly desirable.
