OPWDD Nurse (RN)

A health services organization on Long Island is currently seeking a new, licensed Registered Nurse (RN) to join their OPWDD team at one of their adult residential facilities. In this role, the OPWDD Nurse (RN) will be responsible for providing nursing care and treatment for emergency and minor malady relief, including performing assessments, giving first aid treatments, changing dressings and administering medications

Responsibilities:

The OPWDD Nurse (RN) will:

  • Collaborate with all healthcare professionals, pharmacies, labs and hospitals and coordinate care to ensure all health care needs of the individuals are met
  • Attend pertinent medical and psychiatric appointments to advocate for the individuals and ensure appropriate treatment plans
  • Follow up on all treatment recommendations in a timely manner
  • Ensure all medical and psychiatric treatment plans are compliant with current Standards of Care and State Regulations
  • Check monthly medication order for accuracy and monitor for adequate supply of medication in the residence at all times
  • Communicate with families regarding medical issues, as necessary
  • Provide 24 hour telephone triage on call services, weekdays (carrying cell phone) and appropriately notify the Director of Nursing in the event of emergencies
  • Obtain and maintain medical histories and records to assure continuity of each Individual’s medical history in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements
  • Participate as a member of the program planning process (attending and participating in ISP meetings)
  • Assist in the interview process of candidates for the medical support counselor position
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of nursing
  • NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Solid assessment, clinical, and documentation skills
  • Patient oriented
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized

Desired Skills:

  • 1+ year of Nursing experience
  • Experience working with the Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled population
