Fuel Procurement Analyst

Procure all fuel and fuel related products/services for the Company. Develop, manage, and execute a fuel-purchasing portfolio through diverse strategies in bulk purchases, spot rack and short/long term index price structure contracts. Evaluate long and short-term supply strategy as well as help analyze, negotiate, and execute key supply opportunities to minimize cost.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist in the planning, costing, & negotiating related supply chain commodities
  • Monitoring companywide fuel inventory
  • Ensure cost effective purchasing of related supplies, equipment, and services as needed
  • Develop supplier relationships and coordinate to receive prices via electronic means
  • Calculate all price formulas
  • Maintain data in appropriate systems/technology.
  • Ensures price accuracy through various price checks and authentication methods
  • Perform studies and analysis of pricing, market, and other datasets to produce periodic and ad hoc reports
  • Analyze prices to produce price optimization and various cost savings
  • Identify pricing trends at different terminals and suppliers. Communicate these trends to capitalize on potential savings with future orders
  • Identify further cost savings and cost efficiencies through developed knowledge and partnership opportunities
  • Attend trade functions and industry events to ensure up to date knowledge of industry
  • Maintain relationships with and between customers, suppliers, carriers
  • Recognize process improvement opportunities and initiate sustainable proposals
  • Understand company goals, objectives, infrastructure, geographic presence, volumes and history
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in the fields of fuel distribution, fuel pricing, and fuel transportations
  • Attention to detail and strong process orientation
  • Strong verbal and written business communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to understand supply issues/concerns and resolve independently
  • Ability to recognize market, refining, and supply nuances that impact daily decisions
  • Ability to analyze contractual agreements
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to negotiate with third parties such as suppliers and carriers
  • Previous pricing analysis work for major oil company or jobber preferred
  • Knowledge of fuel pricing and contracting mechanisms preferred.
  • Familiarity with fuel supplier contract mechanisms such as PLATTS, OPIS and ARGUS based pricing preferred.
  • Strong understanding of index pricing such as OPIS, PLATTA, ARGUS, and how to calculate pricing formulas based on these indexes
