Enterprise Sports Performance Executive Director

Job Description:

The Executive Director is an enterprise senior leadership role within Intermountain leading the Sports Performance & Sports Medicine portfolios inclusive of elite, professional sports performance and medicine programs as well as the aspiring athlete and high school sports programs (hereafter referred to as the Programs).

The Executive Director partners with ambulatory and acute operations and clinical leadership, clinical programs, clinical shared services and with various Intermountain Medical Groups and affiliated (non-employed) service lines and markets to develop, implement and lead a cohesive enterprise-wide strategy for these Programs, including but not limited to developing business relationships with interested parties, creating contractual agreements in support of the Programs, establishing recommended operational and clinical standards (with the support and endorsement of clinical leadership), proposing and supporting clinical and non-clinical staffing needs within the associated regions/markets, and supporting the overall financial performance of the Programs. The Executive Director will ensure positive, thriving business relationships and performance (inclusive of business development and sales) across the Programs. In addition, the Executive Director will coordinate and support the management of all professional, collegiate, and high school sports medicine sponsorships and services including contract negotiations, marketing and promotion, growth, and development. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer Ambulatory Care (UT/ID) and has matrixed accountability to Region Presidents and/or their delegates.

Develops multi-year Programs strategy and collaborates with regional, market, medical group practice and/or hospital leadership to ensure successful execution of Programs strategy within operations.

Proposes specific operational, financial and clinical standards related to the Programs and supports regional and market medical group practice and hospital leaders in deploying the standards.

Leads steering committees and other relevant, necessary meetings to enable collaboration and coordination of services across the enterprise, ensuring continuous improvement as well as Program alignment and execution to plan.

Develops, monitors and tracks key indicators of performance (KPIs) within the Programs in areas including but not limited to safety, quality, consumer and caregiver experience, equity, profitability and growth.

Implements consistent, ongoing measurement and communication of the evaluation of the Programs to KPIs and other operating standards.

Monitors, tracks and manages overall Program performance through collaboration with regional and market practice and hospital leadership (inclusive of both employed and affiliated providers as needed). Identifies areas of opportunity for improvement and supports the implementation of corrective plans as needed to execute to planned target or stretch performance.

Responsible for achieving sales and growth goals, proactive and positive business relationship management and business development within the Programs. Works in conjunction with regional/market leadership, outreach and local hospital administrators to develop community and business relationships to support and nurture business development and sales opportunities.

In conjunction with Regional leadership, develops, leads and executes external contractual relationships with payers, vendors and other interested businesses and individuals to create sustainable and profitable service and pricing agreements for the Programs. Support the oversight and management of all partnerships and joint ventures related to sports performance across the system.

Sets aggressive goals with Regions and their respective caregivers, providers and leadership to continuously improve the consumer and business relationship experience with the objective of creating and sustaining an unparalleled service experience within the Programs.

Responsible in conjunction with Regional operating teams for physician, APP, and caregiver engagement within the Programs.

Recommends and supports the implementation of Program-specific huddle and performance boards within the Intermountain Operating Model. Creates and maintains the Programs enterprise-level huddle and performance board.

Accountable to enterprise financial performance of the Programs.

Supports the development and updating of relevant policies, procedures and standard operating procedures as needed to support the Regional operating models.

Works with Regional leadership to assure ongoing compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

Establishes and maintains positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The Executive Director will be directly responsible for a small, nimble team that drives sales, contract execution and supports shared infrastructure to support the Programs. Additionally, the Executive Director has matrixed leadership relationships with the Regional operational leaders overseeing and implementing the Programs in the respective regions and markets.

This position offers remote work capabilities. Candidates residing outside of the Intermountain footprint must reside in a state where Intermountain has or can obtain employment registration.

Minimum Qualifications:

Five to seven years of experience in a progressively responsible operational or sales leadership position within the sports performance industry with proven track record of success.

Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Demonstrated success in launching and growing new business entities.

Expertise in business relationship management, business development, sales, contracting and strategic project planning.

Experience leading matrixed teams spanning rehabilitation, personal and team sports training, ambulatory and acute care domains.

Experience in process improvement.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate, lead and inspire interdisciplinary teams and to develop effective relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

Ability to lead through ambiguity, build high performing teams and serve the Mission of Intermountain Healthcare.

Ability and willingness to travel more than 50% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

MBA or MHA

Five years of experience in Sports Performance or Elite Athletic programs.

Experience in marketing and brand enhancement.

Experience in strategic planning three years of experience with financial modeling.

Project Management experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Leadership experience in an integrated healthcare delivery system or hospital environment.

Athletic experience- professional or elite-level.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent business travel- car and plane, able to navigate multi-state.

Interact with others requiring employee to communicate information.

Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.

See and read computer monitors and documents.

Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
