Assistant Fermentation Lab Technician
Job Description
Summary: Support the Fermentation Industrial staff through preparation, staging, cleaning, organization, documenting, and assisting with core tasks such as media prep and downstream processing. Competence in basic operation of equipment, thorough documentation, and good mechanical aptitude is required.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist in the implementation of media optimization experiments geared toward goals of improved yield, maximum sporulation, or protein expression.
- Assist in preparing and processing 4-Liter Lab Scale Fermenters. This includes (but not limited to) media preparation, probe calibration, pH adjustment, batch sterilization/autoclaving, inoculum preparation, down-stream processing, etc.
- Assist in monitoring 4-Liter Fermenters.
- Assist in the operation and monitoring of 1500-Gallon Fermenter.
- Work on independent projects including media optimization.
- Assist with team projects.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Maintain impeccable notes and logs.
- Assist with general lab duties such as autoclaving glassware, media preparation, cleaning, etc.
Qualifications: Experience with fermentation R&D including media optimization and downstream process optimization preferred but not required. Assistant Technician must be able to follow written procedures, be organized, precise, observant, efficient, and capable of working with minimal supervision. Must be detail oriented and safety minded.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Science required with industrial experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft office tools such as including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
