Job DescriptionThe Lead Driver assists in providing on-the-job training for Drivers, Driver Assistants and Driver Trainees across all platforms. Drivers and trainees will accompany the Lead for daily service visits to customer sites, including university, manufacturing, industrial and research customers. The team member is responsible for characterizing both hazardous and non-hazardous waste material, segregating the material, and lab packing the material per DOT, EPA and TSDF requirements. This position is also responsible for the preparation of all manifests and required documentation to meet DOT, EPA, and state regulations.
- Take Driver Trainee to service clients to learn the proper process for our services using hands on instructions.
- Provide lab pack services to technical customers. Identify, segregate, package and ship hazardous and non-hazardous waste, including some pharmaceutical waste.
- Properly prepare manifests, land disposal restrictions and associated paperwork for proper transportation of waste materials over the road.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of team members and compliance of services provided to the customer.
- Identify and understand customer needs. Take initiative to take appropriate actions to ensure customer needs are met. and proactively searches ways to increase customer satisfaction,
- Promote Company services and values in a positive, professional manner at all times.
- Perform other projects as required by customers, including inventory support, lab moves, on-site services, unknown characterization, high-hazard support, etc.
- Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management
Basic Qualifications:
- Associates degree in chemistry/biology or a minimum of four years of hazardous waste transportation industry experience
- Five or more years of waste characterization and sorting hazardous waste
- CDL Class A or B with Hazmat endorsement
Preferred Qualifications:
- TWIC card
- Knowledge of EPA and DOT Regulations as they relate to waste characterization and the transportation of hazardous waste.
- Ability and knowledge to properly placard vehicle, label waste for transport and complete shipping paperwork.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently to manage own time and schedule to get work accomplished and meet customer needs. Identify specific activities required to accomplish objectives, rank them in order of importance and coordinate and take action to achieve desired results.
- Ability to persist with a specific course of action. Must be willing to commit the necessary time and effort to complete work assignments and do a quality job.
- Highly developed communication skills to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized and diplomatic manner; listen to others to respond effectively to ideas and questions.
- Ability to guide and lead others to meet goals.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and ability to review work for accuracy.
- Ability to create and maintain a high level of professionalism, confidence and accountability with customers.

- Willingness and ability to wear company-issued person protection equipment including eye protection, foot protection, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator.
