Audiovisual Lighting Engineer Assistant

Reports to: Lighting Lead and Operations Manager
Job Summary
David Michael Productions is seeking a qualified candidate for an Lighting Assistant
position within our organization.
The ideal candidate will have experience testing, operating and troubleshooting
professional lighting equipment such as lighting consoles, dimmers, static lighting
fixtures, moving light fixtures, incandescent and LED lights and power distribution.
Key Responsibilities
● Reports to work on time
● Maintains a pleasant and friendly attitude with co-workers and managers to
cultivate an environment of teamwork and camaraderie.
● Works with Lead to prepare upcoming shows
● Tests select items in the lighting department as the items return from showsite
(working list):
❏ Lighting consoles
❏ Moving light fixtures
❏ LED fixtures
❏ Power distribution
● Assist in drafting ground plans and plots
● Updates firmware on all digital lighting consoles and fixtures
● Arrange for subrentals and assist with logistics for delivery and returns
● Reports broken equipment that needs to be sent out for repair to department lead
● Maintains clean and sanitary conditions in repair area
● Maintains clean and orderly department aisle
● Cleans up the work area at the end of each day (workload dependant)
● Enter equipment needs for shows in inventory system
● Communicates with the department lead daily, if needed, or when major issues
arise
● Reports to department lead before ending shift, when present. Report to the
Operations Manager when the department lead is not present.
● Provides experience on showsite as Assistant Lighting Designer or Assistant Master
Electrician roles when needed
● Provides assistance to warehouse team when needed (scanning gear and loading
trucks)
Qualifications
● Must have at least a high school education
● Must be willing to work extended shifts and weekends when necessary
● 3+ years of lighting design/technology experience in theater, TV, and/or event
staging
● Knowledge and proficiency in Vectorworks and Lightwright
● Must be proficient in problem solving and working independently
● Knowledge of addressing, networking/DMX systems for automated and LED
fixtures and power distribution for conventional lighting systems
● Knowledge and proficiency of GrandMA2 and Hog 4 series consoles
● Experience with show prep of gear and cable a plus
● Knowledge and experience with entertainment rigging systems a plus
● Knowledge and experience with fixture maintenance and repair a plus
Physical Requirements
The assistant position is a physically demanding position that requires the following:
● Being able to lift and carry items of up to 50 pounds on to workbench
● Ability to occasionally stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, or sit up for more than eight
hours a day.
