This position provides support to the C&S Legal and UCS Legal teams, as well as Business Leads as appropriate. The position responsibilities will focus on the following areas: legal research, state fair hearing support, procurement support, materials review and other topics as needed to support the broader team. The candidate should have solid organization and project management skills.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. In office in Minnetonka, MN preferred or US telecommute considered.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Legal Research: Gather background information, research the law and/or regulations on specific issues or questions. Prepare and present a summary of the findings, including initial analysis, as requested, to the attorney
- Project Coordination/Management: Ability to coordinate projects within our team and/or with other departments within the organization. The role would be to organize, manage communication and track progress on assigned projects
- Contracts/Agreements: Review contracts and identify areas of legal and/or business risk. Requires working closely with the appropriate business client and assigned attorney
- Fair Hearing Support: Engage with UHC C&S health plan staff to facilitate Fair Hearing requests including tracking, retrieving, and processing fair hearing requests, preparing evidence packets, coordinating preparation of witnesses, and appearing at the fair hearing
- Request for Proposals (RFPs): Review of RFPs working closely with proposal team, procurement legal team, and business partners. The primary focus of the review is to identify any legal related questions/issues. Involves developing and utilizing standard responses to common questions and drafting responses to unique questions, in addition to adhering to proposal timeline and checklist, and drafting of legal summary working with the attorney as needed
- Material Review: Review materials for members, providers, agents, and/or pharmacies (letters, training materials, marketing pieces etc.). The primary focus of the review is to identify any legal or regulatory concerns
- Working as part of a team: This position is one of three paralegals on a team. Each paralegal has specific primary assignments, but some flexibility is required to shift work as needed to respond to priority projects appropriately. Ability to manage multiple projects, train others as needed, and willingly take on work from others are all important to being successful on this team

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or high school diploma/GED with at least 3 years of relevant experience
- 3+ years working in legal or regulatory environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:
- Paralegal Certificate or degree
- 3+ years trial and trial support experience
- Experience working with contracts- contract review, drafting and negotiating skills
- Experience in the healthcare industry, managed care industry, or a federal or state government health care programs
- Experience with state fair hearing support
- Experience working in a matrix environment
- Project Management - experience managing projects with multiple key owners, several components, and changing time frames
- Experience with serving external and internal clients/customers, with a positive Customer Service attitude
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
- Detail Oriented - ability to review presentations, letters, contracts, training materials, etc. looking for legal issues, clarity of description, and misrepresentation of product
- Ability to work within a team - sharing work and assignments as needed to ensure priority projects are handled within the appropriate timeframe
- Solid analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
- An independent thinker who knows when to seek guidance
- Demonstrated research skills with a variety of vehicles - intranet, internet, Lexis Nexis, networking, etc.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
