The Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health was formally created in 2012 and was named in recognition of a transformative gift by the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation. With strong connections to the IU School of Medicine and other health science schools on the IUPUI campus, the School of Public Health is poised to be a catalyst to help build a collaborative approach to improved public health in Indiana. The School of Public Health currently serves more than 700 students, employs over 30 full-time staff and is home to over 50 full-time faculty within the departments of Epidemiology, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Health Policy and Management, Global Health, Biostatistics and Health Data Science.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides guidance to potential and incoming students about public health and health administration undergraduate programs.
  • Articulates public health and health administration undergraduate programs and careers to a high school and college audience with excitement and enthusiasm.
  • Participates in the development of student recruitment and outreach plans, strategies, and written materials.
  • Visits schools and colleges, speaks to groups and individual students, and meets with school counselors and teachers to promote outreach activities; coordinates workshops and events; arranges visits from prospective students and parents.
  • Serves as a liaison for on-campus outreach. Works to build relationships on campus with key partners. Plans and executes on-campus events, presentations, etc. to elevate the presence of the school.
  • Works collaboratively with senior recruiter and admissions counselor.
  • Develops presentations and written communications for potential audiences.
  • Documents recruitment activities.
  • Builds relationships with students on campus.
  • Supports school student ambassador program.
  • Analyzes trends in recruitment and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Prepares and distributes recruitment reports for unit.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • May provide guidance to other student services staff; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.
General Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements programs and initiatives that touch on various/multiple student-related goals, such as enhancing and reinforcing academic engagement and experiential learning; increasing student engagement, wellness, and involvement; fostering learning, inclusion, and development; supporting students in crisis and adversity; and improving the student campus experience.
  • Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting one-on-one to discuss areas of concern on campus, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives.
  • Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student services goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
  • Projects outcomes for services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student services against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
  • Serves on committees and performs student services research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
  • Plans and coordinates communications for student services initiatives to ensure student participation and engagement.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in public affairs, counseling, social work, education, business, or a related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or a related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred
  • 2 years in student services, higher education, or a related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position requires some travel and will require a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Advertised Salary

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience, within the range of $40,000 - $50,000 per year.

The selected applicant will be eligible for the IU standard fringe benefits package for exempt staff. The package includes eligibility to enroll in retirement, life, health and dental insurance programs plus tuition assistance and a generous time off package.
