Position Details:
Controllership is important to Grainger's purpose of Keeping the World Working through maintaining excellent internal controls, providing information to all partners, and delivering expert business partnership to achieve growth.
The North America Controller plays an important leadership position within the VP Controller's organization, serving as Grainger's operational accounting process leader for Grainger's North America businesses (US, Canada and Mexico) and oversees the accounting center of excellence (COE), our offshore Accounting center in Panama. You will oversee the architecture, design and transformation of operational accounting processes, applying digital tools and process simplification. You will also lead communications with all businesses ensuring transparency and control of North America accounting processes and metrics. You will report to the Vice President, Controller.

The North America Controller plays an important leadership position within the VP Controller's organization, serving as Grainger's operational accounting process leader for Grainger's North America businesses (US, Canada and Mexico) and oversees the accounting center of excellence (COE), our offshore Accounting center in Panama. You will oversee the architecture, design and transformation of operational accounting processes, applying digital tools and process simplification. You will also lead communications with all businesses ensuring transparency and control of North America accounting processes and metrics. You will report to the Vice President, Controller.
You Will:
- Lead and inspire an accomplished team of 70+ team members across North America (NA), with a focus on developing solid succession planning.
- Help design North America controllership's talent strategy and create balance between operational accounting and transferable finance athlete skillsets.
- Partner with the business to understand potential impact of business activities.
- Collaborate with North American finance and business leaders to complete monthly activities related to all operational accounting areas and internal controls.
- Lead accounting issue resolution with local Controllers or finance teams.
- Assist local Controllers in the migration of work to COEs and deploy digital solutions and process simplification.
- Bring end-to-end financial reporting governance for major operational processes and operate controls to support audits. Partner with external and internal auditors on quarterly reviews and annual audits.
You Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or MBA.
- CPA, CA preferred; Big-4 leader experience.
- 10+ years operational controllership experience. Previous process optimization/automation.
- Experience working in a matrixed global business environment with sound understanding of global process flows.
- Experience with SOX, GAAP and business/operational orientation.
- Demonstrated leadership of a large team.
- Experience with SAP or other large ERP environments. Experience with digital mid-layer technologies such as for process/workflow automation, data analytics or visualization are a distinct plus.
