Vehicle Fleet Mechanic - Genesee (1580)

Summary: Maintain agency vehicles according to agency and NYS Department of Transportation regulations and manufacturer specifications. Perform road calls for agency vehicles, as required. Monitor maintenance schedules as required by the Transportation Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

• Maintain and repair vehicles in a safe manner in accordance with NYS DOT regulations, manufacturer specifications and agency requirements under the supervision of the Transportation Manager.
• Flexibility with work hours required.
• Review driver inspection sheets on a daily basis and take appropriate action
• Evaluate vehicle repairs and make recommendations to Transportation Manager. Must have an ability to work with outside repair vendors.
• Initiate paper work for parts and supplies that will enable the proper maintenance of inventory.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Ensure that agency equipment (i.e. air compressor, tire machine, etc) is maintained and in good working order.
• Perform all driving duties according to 19A and agency requirements and maintaining a Class C CDL license with P endorsement.
• Perform road calls on agency vehicles.
• Serve as on-call mechanic when assigned by Transportation Manager. This will include carrying and answering the on-call cell phone and being available on a 24 hour a day basis
• Participate in quality assurance and compliance activities as required

Non-Essential Job Functions

• Attend necessary transportation meetings

• Assist with year-end inventory

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Minimum 2 years experience as a working mechanic or education equivalent.
• Experience with all models of vehicles

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 Lbs
• Ability to pass SED physical performance test
• Ability to maintain composure under pressure

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must have own tools
• Valid NY State driver’s license and ability to obtain CDL Class C with passenger endorsement.
• For positions in Livingston and Wyoming counties, an S endorsement is required.
