Positions in this function are responsible for checking in, scheduling appointments, answering billing questions and managing patient medical records for a clinic. Roles may vary based on the size of the clinic(s).
This position is part-time, one weekend shift every other week. Employees are required to have flexibility to work 7:00am to 3:30pm CST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Our office is located at 3400 East Racine Street, Janesville, WI 53546.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of specific admission, registration, and pre- registration requirements for all areas, including but not limited to: Main Admitting, OP Registration, Maternity, and Rehabilitation Units
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits on all assigned accounts using electronic verification systems or by contacting payers directly to determine level of insurance coverage
- When contacting payers directly, utilizes approved scripting
- Obtain referral, authorization and pre-certification information and documents this information in the ADT system
- When appropriate, ensures the payer receives a Notice of Admission on all admissions, scheduled and non-scheduled, within 24 hours or the next business day
- Meet CMS billing requirements for the completion of the MSP, issuance of the Important Message from Medicare, issuance of the Observation Notice, and other requirements applicable and documenting completion within the hospitals information system for regulatory compliance and audit purposes
- Follow up on missing authorizations. If authorization is not obtained within 48 hours prior to service, contact patients to advise them of their financial responsibility
- Thoroughly and accurately documents insurance verification and authorization information in the ADT system, identifying outstanding deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and policy limitations, and advises patient and collects amount due at or before the time of service

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
- 1+ years of experience in customer service, preferably in a healthcare environment
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience in requesting and processing financial payments
- Ability to perform basic mathematics for payment calculation

Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience working in a hospital Patient Registration department, physician office setting, healthcare insurance company, revenue cycle vendor, and/or other revenue cycle related role
- Understanding of insurance policies and procedures
- Basic knowledge of ICD - 9 (10) and CPT terminology
- Working knowledge of facility pricing structure and cost estimates
- Knowledge of charity care programs as well as various government and non-government payment assistance programs
Soft Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
