Consumer Lending Underwriter

This position will be responsible for examining, evaluating and underwriting all Consumer Loan applications in order to assess the risk, confirm compliance with guidelines and all regulatory requirements (both state and federal) and to render a sound credit decision. The Consumer Loan Underwriter will have the authority to approve and deny consumer loans as well as recommend decisions to partner credit unions on exceptions.

The Consumer Loan Underwriter will strive to adhere to the agreed upon SLAs between S3 and the partner credit unions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Underwrite and render a decision on all Consumer loan applications initiated through all channels of loan origination in accordance with all state and federal regulatory requirements and within guidelines on the products offered by the three partner credit unions.
  • Demonstrate exceptional service in all interactions with members, prospective members and personnel in partner credit unions
  • Review and analyze file documentation related to the loan decision and properly mitigate and document policy exceptions
  • Communicate loan decision and any required conditions, within the defined approval authority parameters, to applicable loan support staff, branches staff, and/or the member
  • Consistently meet stated Service Level Agreement (SLA’s) with partner credit unions
  • Additional job-related projects as assigned by management
  • Work in collaboration and partnership with other team members

QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Three years of consumer loan underwriting experience preferred
  • Candidate must be highly organized and able to handle a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary
  • Excellent customer service skills with strong attention to detail
  • Prioritize workload based on department requirements and customer needs
  • Strong analytical skills required with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Ability to multi-task in other areas of the unit
  • Aptitude to work independently as well as part of a team and ability to collaborate with others
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented
  • Ability to function in an ever changing environment
