Transport Manager

Your Job:
The North America Transport Manager's primary responsibility is to develop the transportation strategy for the region and manage transport strategy implementation projects. This involves designing the inbound and outbound transport plan and administering a TMS or tool to facilitate the coordination of flows. This position drives decisions related to freight contracts and shipping choices and strategies, with the input of the 3PL Manager and Director of Operations. This role covers freight needs and decisions both on our inbound PO's from factories from all over the world, as well as outbound to customers in North America and export business to Europe/Japan/Australia.
The Transport Manager reports directly to the Senior 3PL Manager, North America. This position will work closely with the Demand and Supply planning team to report on the status of inbound shipments and find shipping solutions for urgent needs.
This position requires you to travel 20% of the time.
Your Responsibilities:
Manage transport activity and operations
- Assist in building the inbound/outbound transport budget.
- Ensure budgetary monitoring of the activity by controlling costs.
- Control of transport invoices and accounting coding.
- Set up, monitor, and analyze activity and performance indicators.
- Measure deviations and propose recommendations.
- Manage customer relations in the event of malfunctions and propose corrective actions.
Control transport procurement
- Source carriers and service providers and audit them.
- Manage calls for tender.
- Head contractual and pricing negotiations with carriers and service providers for all modes of transport involved in the flows.
- Manage contractual SLA negotiations with carriers and service providers for all modes of transport concerned by the flows.
Manage shipments of goods classified as dangerous by the transport code
- Set up the "dangerous goods" approval for customer accounts with service providers.
- Draft DGDs (Dangerous Goods Declaration) - holder of the "Dangerous Goods Shipper" training.
- Ensure that the packaging/labelling instructions comply with transport regulations (in collaboration with Quality/Safety).
- Provide the transport service provider with the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the item contained in the shipment.
Search for optimization with the goal of continuous improvement
- Manage all transport KPIs.
- Take charge of the continuous improvement process in conjunction with other departments.
- Carry out a legislative watch on the sector's regulations.
- Identify potential savings, define Incoterm's policies with the commercial services in a logic of optimization of logistic flows, transfer of risks and customs costs.
- Set up indicators to evaluate the gains generated by the optimization of customs flows and ensure their follow-up.
Monitor the import and export of products internationally
- Validate official declarations with customs services and ensure compliance with customs regulations and constraints.
- Ensure the correct classification of manufactured products according to their customs category and according to the commercial and regulatory requirements specific to the country of origin and destination of the goods.
- Validate the conditions of import and export transactions of goods.
- VISAS & documents with CCI (Chamber of Commerce), Consulates and Embassies or subcontracting legalizations with private companies.
Comply with the US customs administration
- Liaise with the customs administration and all other control bodies.
- Implement internal security procedures to reduce the risk of non-compliance and implement corrective solutions if necessary. Ensure that goods are delivered to their destination in compliance with the regulations of the importing country.
- Work upstream with the client and the export sales departments in order to issue all the necessary "authorizations" and "certificates", register on government sites, etc.
- Contribute to the analysis of foreign regulations and the establishment and implementation of procedures to comply with them.
- Monitor the evolution of customs regulations, disseminate information, advise and train the departments concerned. Set up a regulatory watch.
- Communicate internally on the risks associated with non-compliance with customs regulations.
- Draw up necessary internal reports.
Effectively supervise the logistics coordinator role (includes coaching, disciplining, and evaluating)
- Promote a culture of accountability and drive the business results through the execution and maintenance of the standardized operations in accordance with Group Guidelines.
- Provide training and coaching on a regular basis.
- Complete goal setting and performance evaluations for employees on time.
- Create an effective work environment: Foster open communication, respect & recognition. Promote a collaborative and open work environment.
- Provide on-going and timely feedback and coaching to lead employees on a path toward success.

- Ensure that regulatory obligations are understood and applied
Your Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or higher education in logistics/transportation/customs.
- 8-10 years of experience in a similar position.
- Training in hazardous materials management
- Ability to manage and listen
- Autonomy, dynamism, responsiveness, and adaptability
- Rigor, analytical and organizational skills
- Negotiation skills and oral and written communication skills
- Ability to represent our interests in relation to our transport service providers
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, ERP JDE, TMS SHIPTIFY & ZENKRAFT
