At Optum Insight Life Sciences, our Commercial Analytics group leverages claims and Electronic Health Record (EHR) data with statistical techniques to support our key pharmaceutical customers. We are seeking a client facing Consultant to manage customer projects and contribute to the growing team.



The consultant’s responsibility includes a combination of (1.) managing custom analytics projects (50% of time), (2.) develop new business and relationships to support additional projects (40% of time), and lastly (3.) thought leadership in developing the team, likely through advanced analytics, or client management (10% of time). This role is a good fit for those who are interested working with others in an open environment, where sharing of ideas is important. The existing team has deep background in the industry and works extremely well together, with most team members having 5-10 years of tenure in the team, and a great team culture.



The Optum Insight Life Sciences Commercial Analytics team is focused primarily on growing business within the Brand Analytics, Market Access Analytics, Real World Evidence, and Advanced Analytics groups within the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, and Medical Device sector.

Primary Responsibilities:




  • Interfacing with the customer and internal analytics team to ensure customer project success. Must have the ability to execute on a data analytics project by understanding the customer needs, the technical aspect of healthcare analytics, the potential use of advanced analytics, and ensuring project timelines are met. You will typically use business intelligence, data visualization, and overall business acumen to build solutions, perform analysis and interpret data

  • Developing and cultivating new and repeat business in coordination with the Business Development group and by delivering projects beyond client expectations

  • Provides leadership and collaboration to managers and/or senior level analysts as it relates to the project execution. Key priorities are ensuring client timelines are met, understanding project resourcing, facilitating customers data feasibility requests, among others

  • Using your background in collaboration with our analytics team, develop client solutions that include the use of advanced analytics, including modeling, in providing insight to project objectives

    • For example, you must be able to understand the client’s needs and subsequently craft an analytics solution that exceeds those needs. Success is understanding the customer needs, the industry, the therapeutic area, and Optum’s data assets. You are the interpreter of the customer needs to the final project, and then finally, the execution of the project with our senior consultants and analytics leads



  • A key responsibility is to work with internal and external stakeholders to design the analytic framework to support the pharma customer project, responsibilities will include:

    • Development of proposals to include background, study objectives, recommended methodology, timing and costs

    • Development of report formats to govern the project, including cohort planning, and interpretations of appropriate data - must be able to interpret the data and not simply report the data

    • Collaborate with analytics lead to identify the appropriate data asset, and the appropriate statistical and modeling methods to support project objectives

    • Act as a bridge between the client and internal CA team’s accurate translation of objectives

    • Perform quality control assessments of all aspect of the data and analytics related to the project

    • Interact with other departments to ensure a high level of client satisfaction through successful execution of project

Required Qualifications:




  • 5+ years of successful management of pharma/medical device/other healthcare customers in an external consulting setting focused on commercial analytics, with preference for remote teamwork

  • 5+ years utilizing healthcare claims and/or Electronic Health Record data to develop solutions for client needs

  • 5+ years of experience communicating complex analytics and processes to a wide variety of groups



Preferred Qualifications:




  • MBA or MS degree with 5+ years of experience in a data science environment

  • 10+ years of consulting experience

  • Experience with Life Sciences Industry, especially within the Commercial Analytics specialties

  • Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically

  • Solid communication skills with both technical and non-technical collaborators

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100.
