Business Process Analyst III, Embedded Business Data Steward

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will join in the development and implementation of Blue Origin's enterprise-wide data governance program with the core mandate of improving the health and utility of Blue Origin's enterprise and domain data assets. Stewardship is a critical component of Blue Origin's evolving Enterprise Data Strategy which will ultimately allow the corporation to optimize, protect, and leverage data as an enterprise asset. This role is a member of the Data Governance Office, reporting to the Manager of Data Governance. You will be an integral member of Blue Origin's fledgling Data Steward Network which is where the rubber meets the road to space. This is where ideas are turned into action, and where we see results that translate into true value for the business.

The Data Steward Network provides data transparency, makes data more meaningful, ensures data accuracy, increases trust in data, and safeguards our information assets. You will operate across the people, process, and technology pillars of Data Governance. You will be responsible for key elements within the full spectrum of data governance activities from policy and process improvement to tool enhancements. You will collaborate with subject matter experts including data consumers and producers within production planning groups where you will be embedded to ensure high quality, consistent, defined, accurate, and fully pedigreed governed data that is fit for use exists to support business and analytic operations. You will serve as the bridge between those stakeholders and the central data governance office bringing the needs of your stakeholders and your expertise as a governance-minded steward to the forefront. In this way you will advise on governance policies, principles, procedures, and standards. You will evaluate issues in the governance of enterprise data, including problem definition, root cause analysis, and opportunity and solution recommendations.

You will serve as the direct custodian of key data assets to ensure your product group has the most accurate and reliable core information and by doing so, will play a key role in progressing our technology, advancing the mission of Blue Origin and shaping the future of human spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

You will engage key stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify and document the current state of highly complex end-to-end business processes and their systems' data. Based on your analysis you will work with key business leaders and propose process improvements that will increase business process efficiency and/or system data quality. You will apply deep process expertise and a range of process improvement methodologies. You will be responsible for the cleanliness, accuracy, integrity and accessibility of governed data including but not limited to master data across engineering and manufacturing systems including Windchill. You will understand and document all process and data model changes, and the impacts of those changes throughout the business. You will become a subject matter expert in your product group's processes and find ways to continuously improve. You will be a data steward of engineering and manufacturing governed data including master data.

  • Manage release schedule of data governance and data stewardship services with stakeholders
  • Ensure data governance and data stewardship consistency between your product group's processes and those of other business areas and functions.
  • Assess and document existing processes to ultimately update or create command media
  • Be the custodian of the data within your purview and utilize tools available to you including our data management software, EnterWorks™ to track and manage the Data Quality Index (DQI) of that data.


  • Provide data governance tool demonstrations to your stakeholders to empower self-governing and awareness within your embedded group's organization
  • Aid in developing data governance and data stewardship playbooks
  • Aid in developing and then execute a data governance and data stewardship communications strategy
  • Aid in developing and implementing data steward onboarding processes and procedures so the data steward network can grow in a consistent and meaningful way
  • Develop data governance and stewardship self-service training materials, in partnership with our internal training team.


  • Collaborate with architecture and analytics teams to establish, analyze and provide metrics to leadership in order to prioritize the needs and requests of your product group.
  • Promote the use and reference of the data dictionary by data consumers and producers alike including fellow Governed Data Stewards, business analysts, and engineers.
  • Recommend new data quality processes for transactional data and push for data quality operations to move upstream.
  • Maintain flexibility in an ever-evolving landscape to perform additional duties as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of data stewardship, data governance, process analysis, and/or master data experience with a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience and expertise across end-to-end business cycles within a manufacturing and engineering design setting.
  • Direct experience working on data quality, data warehousing or other enterprise data and analytic management initiatives.


  • Experience leading change management and knowledge sharing activities
  • Experience developing training and communication materials
  • A successful track record navigating uncertainty and ambiguity in critical, enterprise-wide, multidisciplinary initiatives that meaningfully improve organizational effectiveness
  • Basic understanding and ability to interrogate databases using SQL
  • Strong business-centric perspective and communication, presentation and negotiation skills


  • Strong ability to self-manage and drive toward high-quality results
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with a proven track record for gathering and documenting comprehensive business requirements.
  • Thrive in complex, often ambiguous, and fast paced environments.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience using data governance and data quality tools (specifically EnterWorks™)
  • Experience using engineering/design software including Windchill and AutoCad
  • Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP) or Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP) credential.


  • Experience developing and implementing data governance policies and guidelines
  • Experience performing as a data steward
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in leading/directing small project teams
