Vice President of Engineering and Land Development

About the Role: This role will oversee the pre-acquisition and land development activities within Van Metre’s Land Company. The Vice President of Engineering and Land Development will work closely with internal and external stakeholders in site selection and evaluation, zoning, platting, engineering, estimating, budgeting, and supervises the scheduling and completion of all land acquisition activities. This role requires a leader with creative thinking skills and excellent managerial abilities.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate land for optimal use and layout during feasibility
  • Conduct initial site visits
  • Oversee environmental analysis of wetlands, streams, soils, and other items related to potential land acquisitions
  • Oversee analysis related to topography, floodplain, utilities, stormwater, sanitary sewer, and water main related to potential land acquisitions
  • Develop layouts, organize, and analyze 3rd party reports to determine project viability
  • Oversee and manage all required land and product-related entitlements for communities
  • Work with agency staff, planning commissioners, and council members to negotiate conditions of approval
  • Attend working sessions and public meetings on an as-needed basis
  • Oversee the process to obtain construction permits for land development
  • Plan activities regarding land development, acquisition, and infrastructure
  • Oversee design guidelines and implement solutions if issues arise
  • Ensure communities are built consistent with engineering drawings and design specifications
Qualifications / Required Skills And Expertise
  • College degree required; Graduate degree preferred
  • Fifteen years minimum experience in community development, entitlement processing, land development, engineering, or other related fields
  • Experience in land acquisition and due diligence
  • Extensive knowledge of entitlement process
  • Experience with development
  • Critical thinking skill
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets
  • Ability to plan and execute engineering and development schedules
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience using office technology suite; Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.
  • Excellent leadership skills and managerial abilities
Performance Measurement
  • Ability to achieve or exceed designated performance goals related to acquisition and land development tasks
  • Creative insights into optimal land and uses of land
