About Eat Drink & Be Merry
Eat Drink & Be Merry Hospitality is the premier parent company of NYC Best Bars, Chicago Best Bars, and Uptown Hospitality. We are proud to own and operate a diverse portfolio of 14 successful bars and restaurants located in New York, New York, Chicago, Illinois and Charleston, South Carolina. Our iconic neighborhood staples were designed to create a welcoming and warm atmosphere while offering classic American pub fare, affordable cocktails and exceptional service. We also have a full-scale in-house event team who provide premium and personalized service in assisting clients to curate a unique experience in any of our locations or 13 exclusive event spaces.
In 1991, we began with a small, basement bar in the heart of the West Village of New York City. Almost 30 years later, we expanded our business with eight locations in Manhattan, four locations in Chicago and currently three locations in Charleston. After Down the Hatch, we went on to open Mo’s Caribbean (1992), Jake’s Dilemma (1994), The Gin Mill (1995) and Off the Wagon (1998). In the late 90’s we launched our full-time in-house event department to expand our already thriving party business.
In 2008, we closed our doors to Mo’s and in its place opened the The Stumble Inn. In 2010 we opened 3 Sheets Saloon and The 13th Step. Our final NYC location was Hair of the Dog in 2012.
Since our locations in New York City had become prominent to locals and tourists alike we decided to expand our business to Chicago. In 2010, we took over Cleo’s Pub and Jack & Ginger’s--both long standing favorites of Chicagoans. We then ventured into the local fast food haunt of Fatso’s (1995) and opened their second location at Lincoln Park in 2019.
After focusing on the North, we were taken away by the Southern charm of Charleston. We opened Uptown Social in 2018 which pairs an elevated culinary experience and innovative cocktails with live entertainment.
In the Spring of 2022 we opened Sharehouse - a coastal cantina in a historical Charleston train depot. Along with that comes Bodega - our sandwich concept and co-working space.
