Job Description
Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. We have an exciting full-time opportunity available for someone who enjoys people and food! The Food Truck Assistant & Kitchen Cook will assist the Food Truck Supervisor with food truck operations and, when not scheduled on the Food Truck, will assist in the Mission's Kitchen as Cook preparing and serving meals.

Responsibilities include:
- Opening and closing the food truck, including food prep and clean up, assuring quality control of all orders cooked to serve.
- Running the food truck register and tracking receipts
- Performing food truck window service, including orders and processing transactions
- Working alongside other staff and volunteers providing excellent service in the public eye
- In the Mission Kitchen, cooking and warming meals according to meal plan
- Driving Light of Life vehicles (cargo van and box truck), functioning as a caterer, delivering food and lifting heavy boxes and equipment
Due to the interface with the clients, Light of Life considers every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and as such, requires employees to:
- Participate in the ministry of Light of Life Rescue Mission and walk alongside clients sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them through actions and words.
- Resolve all issues in ways that promote the principles of Light of Life while following the processes described in the Light of Life staff handbook.
- Practice Christlike stewardship of all resources.
- Subscribe to and embrace Light of Life's Statement of Faith, Values, and Principles.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- High school diploma or GED
- ServSafe certified or ability to obtain certification
- Valid PA Driver's License with clean driving record
- Previous cooking experience; coursework in food service or culinary arts preferred
- Experience with commercial kitchen equipment helpful
- Ability to work a rotating schedule including weekends
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs occasionally
- Organization and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills; compassionate and patient; able to create a safe and comfortable environment.
- An understanding of addiction issues and homelessness a plus
