Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Program Manager, Proprietary Projects to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG) to support development of new first-of-kind space vehicles and missions. The position can be located in Seal Beach, CA or El Segundo, CA.

ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world's first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing capabilities and a Flight Software Architecture across a number of products that support a complex mission set.

The development effort will involve analysis and allocation of requirements across a Boeing and a key supplier with an existing code base, development of a flight software design approach, and development of appropriate processes to integrate the Boeing and supplier teams. The supplier and Boeing have significantly different processes that will need to be integrated for a common program approach. You will also lead development of risk reduction and integration testing internal to the software effort and with external segments to accomplish requirement Validation and Verification objectives.

An ideal candidate has a strong technical background in System and Flight Software architectures and development processes with demonstrated program management skills. You will be required to develop and manage a complex work share environment for development between Boeing and key suppliers to meet program objectives.

The ideal candidate has demonstrated the ability to work within broad and minimally-defined technical and programmatic problem areas and effectively lead integrated efforts. Clear and concise, written and oral communication of complex subjects to Boeing executive leadership and all levels of customer program management is required.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Overall technical, cost, and schedule responsibility for Product capability and Flight Software development
  • Manages employees and managers performing Product and Software Development activities
  • Develops and executes integrated plans and guides the development of IPT business and technical strategies, goals, objectives.
  • Acquires resources for organizational activities, provides management of suppliers and leads process improvements.
  • Implements Boeing command media and best practices throughout IPT organization, including safety, risk/issue/opportunity, technical performance, and change control management, among other disciplines.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, suppliers, stakeholders, peers, partners, management and direct reports.
  • Manages, develops and motivates employees and IPT teams.
  • Coordinates inputs for new business proposals involving multiple Boeing business units, engineering functions and subsidiaries to capture and keep programs sold


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Possess a Technical Bachelor's, Master's or a PhD degree (A technical degree is defined as any four year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study)
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering project planning or project management
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in space systems design, architecture definition, and functional analysis
  • Technical leadership experience in ground and software system systems engineering (requirements, design, and operation)
  • Experience with software development for space systems and ground segments performing command, control, mission planning and data processing


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with experience with system and software definition
  • Experience in Satellite or Space Programs
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external customers
  • Experience working with customers and suppliers
  • Experience in the implementation and use of Program Management Best Practices
  • Experience developing and managing strong relationships with partners (internal & external) and government customers and representatives
  • Experience interfacing with senior and executive leadership
