Role:

The Director of Sustainability will be responsible for setting and implementing Vital Proteins holistic Sustainability roadmap encompassing product, emissions, energy, water, and charity. This will include both internal goals (infrastructure, materials, office and manufacturing, logistics, etc.) and external goals (consumer and customer facing messaging, supplier requirements, sourcing, etc.)

Reporting to the Vice President of Innovation & Research and Development, this role will be headquartered at Vital Proteins Corporate Headquarters in Chicago, IL, with the opportunity to be remote, with visits to our Franklin Park, IL manufacturing facility as required.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Driving the establishment and execution of the Sustainability roadmap

  • Setting internal and external goals and pace-setting external partners and internal teams execution of these goals

  • Regularly communicate to the company and executive leadership team on updates and status of initiatives

  • Stay up to date with the latest sustainability trends and insights

  • Utilize cost-based analysis to help form recommendations to the business

  • Keeping up to date with knowledge of the holistic sustainability landscape

  • Ensure we consistently message our set of values internally and externally

  • Must have experience in manufacturing setting with ability to also take the perspective of the consumer

  • Have familiarity with Regulatory and Legal; ensure compliance while being able to push the boundaries and challenge status quo

  • Cross functionally collaborate to develop strategies, employee engagement programs, and training materials to help foster a culture of sustainability and continuous improvement, company-wide

    Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher

  • 10+ years combined, in the CPG industry, in one or more of the following areas: product development, project management, regulatory, innovation, marketing, manufacturing, supply chain, sustainability

  • Passionate about corporate responsibility topics with the ability to gain consensus and build excitement among others

  • Detail-oriented with excellent project management, time management and follow-through

  • Strategic thinker with strong experience in yielding tangible and measurable results to the business, able to hold self and others accountable to executing

  • You are able to stay calm under pressure and remain focused on the task at hand

  • Comfortable in a fast paced quickly growing environment, no two days are the same!

  • Must possess leadership (taking initiative, motivating, mentoring), interpersonal skills (relating to others), dedication (taking ownership, meeting deadlines, prioritization), communication (strong written and verbal communications), flexibility and have a positive attitude

  • Proven ability of working in a team environment and in dispersed teams

  • Prior experience is preferred in the CPG or health and wellness space
