We own and operate industrial gas recovery systems and our proprietary Monitoring, Analytics and Recovery Service (MARS) to reduce gas supply costs, increase predictability, and provide unprecedented insight into manufacturing operations. Arencibia’s operating and maintenance function is in the Lehigh Valley, PA area with additional executive and engineering offices in Denver, CO.


As a Research Engineer, you will be involved in R&D efforts of designing, testing and implementing of various cryogenic processes, testing equipment and purification modules.


Responsibilities include:

  • Develop components and component systems from initial concept, testing and final implementation.
  • Develop gas adsorption isotherms using Porosimetry technique on material using various gases at different pressure and temperature.
  • Perform gas analysis using Mass Spectrometry and Gas Chromatography techniques.
  • Perform process calculations including mass balance, heat transfer and adsorption calculations.
  • Analyze and monitor process equipment performance, including coldboxes, heat exchangers, compressors, pumps and purification modules.
  • Author technical documents such as testing protocols/reports and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Prepare training documents to expand core knowledge capabilities to other departments in the organization.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Willing to travel during testing and implementation of the new concept, design or process.


Strong candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering, or equivalent technical training and experience
  • 3+ years of research and testing experience. Preferably in gas and cryogenic processes or equivalent field.
  • Experience in using mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, porosimetry or similar equipment.
  • Ability to summarize and explain large quantities of data concisely and effectively.
  • Ability to take ownership and work in a collaborative, cross-functional and demanding environment.
  • Ability to understand technical papers, P&IDs, engineering and electrical drawings.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions using a test-and-learn approach.
  • Detail-oriented, data-driven approach to solving problems.
  • Ability to learn about gas analyzers, flow meters and other process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ability to learn and perform calculations related to pipe sizing, pump performance and recovery system performance.
  • Experience with inert gas flows, cryogenic piping systems, coldboxes, cryostats, and liquid nitrogen is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in using mechanical tools and instrumentation is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
