OPEX Corporation is currently looking for a full time Product Safety & Compliance Engineer to focus on Robotic Product Development to work at our World Headquarters in Moorestown, NJ. This position reports to the Engineering QA and Compliance Manager.


Responsibilities

The Product Safety & Compliance Engineer will work as part of our product development teams to ensure OPEX’s robotic warehouse products are designed and implemented to meet all safety and compliance regulations and requirements. This role is an instrumental part of the OPEX Engineering team. The successful candidate will also ensure that safety and compliance product requirements are captured and implemented during the design phase of product development.


This role will also be expected to:

  • Conduct research to evaluate safety levels for products
  • Evaluate product designs for safety
  • Work as key member of product design team
  • Understand, promote, represent, and translate product requirements pertaining to US and International EMC / EMI and Radio standards (e.g. FCC Part B, IEC 61000, EMC Directive 2014/30/EU) and related test equipment.
  • Understand, promote, represent, and translate product requirements pertaining to US and International safety standards (e.g. NFPA79, Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) and related test equipment.
  • Understand, promote, represent, and translate product requirements pertaining to US and International safety standards (e.g., OSHA, RoHS, REACH, Batteries/WEEE, etc.)
  • Provide risk assessment to IEC standards and the validation of safety functions based on structural and statistical methods
  • Analyze failure modes, determine the effect of the failure, and identify mitigations and diagnostics
  • Maintain knowledge of the most current EMC, electrical & mechanical safety, and functional safety & compliance standards
  • Review existing product designs for adherence to good safety & compliance practices regarding PCB, wiring, grounding, enclosures, mechanical assemblies, etc.
  • Develop test methods and protocols for testing, then execute product testing
  • Conduct experiments of product prototypes, including experimental setup, execution, recording of detailed data, and summarizing data.
  • Support test equipment used in-house for evaluations; perform pre-compliance testing in external test labs and in-house.
  • Work with test labs in arrangements, preparing product documents and support in performing the testing; compile and maintain internal reports and lab reports.
  • Present, discuss, and review safety and compliance specifications in collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Strive to achieve balance between the perfect technical solution, safety & compliance standards, and managing business risk
  • Provide clear, concise, accurate and timely verbal and written updates to project and department management.
  • Take ownership of tasks from start to finish.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Robotics Engineering strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of product design experience, prior safety and/or compliance experience strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of successfully attaining engineering compliance goals and developing and executing engineering compliance programs
  • Experience with a range of domestic and nondomestic mechanical and electrical engineering Requirements (e.g., Machinery, Radio, EMC, Functional Safety, Machine Safety, etc.).
  • Experience with an array of domestic and nondomestic engineering-related environmental, health, and safety Requirements (e.g., OSHA, RoHS, REACH, Batteries/WEEE, etc.).
  • Experience with US and International EMC / EMI and Radio standards (e.g. FCC Part B, IEC 61000, EMC Directive 2014/30/EU) and related test equipment.
  • Experience with US and International safety standards (e.g. NFPA79, Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) and related test equipment.
  • Experience working with TÜV Rheinland, TÜV SÜD, and/or Pilz safety and compliance procedures a plus!
  • Demonstrated ability to own an assignment and see it through to completion.
  • Ability to travel when necessary (less than 10%)

Physical/Work Environments

  • Employee will be working in an office, lab, and production environment with occasional travel to customer sites
  • Some walking between OPEX facilities
  • Employee may occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
