The Project Manager for Strategic Sourcing and Procurement manages and oversees CarMax's Strategic Sourcing projects using widely recognized industry best-practices, sourcing methodologies, tools, and techniques.
Work Location
This is a hybrid role that can be located at the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA or CarMax Technology Hub in Dallas, TX.

Sourcing Project Management - Execute strategic sourcing projects and manage supplier negotiations to provide maximum value to CarMax.

The Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Project Manager will be a key member of the organization, identifying and delivering value to our stakeholders through successful completion of strategic projects and negotiation of cost savings and contract protections for CarMax. The successful candidate will possess excellent abilities to manage both projects and cross-functional teams, contribute to team and department goals, and provide a high level of customer service to our business partners. CarMax practices a strict "one voice" policy during sourcing and negotiation events. As such, the successful candidate will play the lead role in negotiations with suppliers. This requires close collaboration with partner organizations, business stakeholders, and Strategic Sourcing leadership.

What you will do - Essential Responsibilities
Sourcing Project Management - Execute strategic sourcing projects and manage supplier negotiations to provide maximum value to CarMax.
- Develop a sourcing strategy for assigned sub-categories that delivers against Technology and business strategy priorities that is aligned with the overall Technology Category Strategy.
- Work with business owners, review market data, and research to identify technology and suppliers that best meet CarMax's needs.
- Review CarMax purchasing patterns and available forecasts in specific categories; and assess business requirements, historical volumes, and likely future trends.
- Identify sourcing objectives based on business requirements, benchmarks, opportunities, and timelines; determine buying and sourcing options (spot buy, RFI, RFP, negotiations, etc.) and supply alternatives; and identify and pre-qualify supply sources.
- Develop sourcing strategy for project, then develop appropriate approach to market in terms of Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Proposal (RFP) / Quote (RFQ) documents; develop supplier selection criteria; and manage communications with suppliers and business and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Evaluate supplier responses and present finalists' proposals in a side-by-side format (apples-to-apples comparisons), along with well-thought-out recommendations to stakeholders.
- Negotiate business terms and service levels based off industry best practices; collaborate with Legal, Information Security, Audit Services, Finance, and business stakeholders to ensure that contracts reflect business needs and value required, and requirements for success are thoroughly documented.
- Manage the award and communication to stakeholders and selected suppliers; communicate the impact of sourcing projects to the appropriate CarMax audience.
- Identify, analyze, and measure cost savings, including non-price value opportunities (e.g. cost avoidance) and other deliverables (e.g. quality improvement) against baselines and budgets, when available.
- Partner with Technology and Product to identify innovation opportunities that enhance the customer and employee experience.

Qualifications and Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Technology Strategic Sourcing or Category Management experience (5+ years)
- Prior experience negotiating business terms for complex SaaS agreements with industry leaders (5+ years)
- Experience acting as deal lead and representing the buy-side in a "one voice" capacity
- Strong project management skills (3+ years' experience); ability to manage multiple projects with competing and dynamic priorities.
- Excellent communications skills with an ability to influence across organizations using data and analysis.
- Strong customer service, problem solving, planning and organization skills.
- Ability to "own" an area of work and manage work independently with minimal supervision.
- Previous experience demonstrating ROI and deal structure to various levels within an organization; present to stakeholder and Procurement leadership to gain consensus and buy-in on next steps
- Ability to establish working relationships with associates at all levels of the company.
- Experience working with Legal, Information Security, and other deal team partners.
- Strong knowledge MS Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Word
- College degree or equivalent business/procurement experience
