Job Description
Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Expansion Project is looking for new team members to join Hampton Roads Connector Partners (HRCP). Hampton Roads Connector Partners Joint Venture consists of Dragados, VINCI, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $3.8bn Design Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise all crew members, including a minimum of two direct employees, and subcontracted employees affiliated with the respected segment.
Oversee daily assignments of crews, including scheduling, assignments, attendance, etc.
Monitor work progress or crew, and certify team hours for on-site payroll.
Delegate tasks and accountabilities, and instructs, leads, supervises and directs crew.
Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met
Supervise the crew’s use of machinery and equipment, and ensures adequate resources are available.
Assist the Superintendent in preparing reports pertaining to work progress and safety
Drives truck equipped with various configurations of dump body to transport and dump materials such as soil, sand, sludge, mulch, rock, asphalt, or other materials as needed.
Transport and deliver construction materials to and from projects in a timely manner.
Makes daily pre/post trip inspections on assigned vehicle and trailer in order to maintain maximum vehicle safety conditions and to check for any damaged or non-working parts.
Maintains a truck log in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policy.
Communicates regularly with manager to ensure that delivery schedule is being followed and that any problems with traffic or with site conditions are reported promptly.
Complies with all aspects of truck maintenance, cleanliness and repair in accordance with the guidelines specified by company policy.
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.
Responsible for keeping the truck clean inside and out and in a presentable manor.
May be responsible for driving a combination of equipment, tractor – lowboy trailer, tractor-flatbed, tractor-oversize/overweight towed equipment.
Weighs in and out at scales for load ticketing and legal weight compliance.
Positions blocks and/or tarps to secure load for transit.
Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Management Team
Education/Experience
Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
Three to five years’ experience in oversize loads and trucking preferred
Valid Class B Driver’s License
Work Requirements
Must be 18 years in age or older.
Valid current DOT Med Cert and/or able to secure a new DOT Med Cert.
Must pass drug screen.
MVR must meet company and DOT standards.
Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Must maintain current driver’s license that meets state requirements, i.e., CDL, Class A and/or B Driver along with the passenger endorsement preferred
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary with short notice.
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA.
Compliance with all OSHA regulations.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
Must have knowledge with DOT specifications.
Thorough operational knowledge and skills of trucks and related equipment to be operated.
Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations in order to keep time and material records, and read blueprints or other project documents.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and the exercise of independent judgment.
Must be familiar with securing heavy equipment and other over dimensional loads.
Ability to seek resolutions when issues may arise.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Job requires climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, frequent lifting of extensions chutes, stretching, sitting/driving, shifting gears, and covering/uncovering load when applicable.
Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
May require sitting for extended periods of time.
Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to focus.
Able to climb in and out of truck 3-4 steps (elevated 4+ feet into cab). (Could be in and out of truck 20-30 times per day).
