Power your future with Qualusin our Transmission Planning Department as a Lead Engineer. Due to continued growth, we are seeking seasoned Lead Transmission Planning Engineer.

Job Overview:

Provides technical direction in determining the need for and feasibility/cost/design of major capital and maintenance projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recognized by clients as an Industry expert and familiar with the applicable NERC/FERC guidelines.

  • Plays a critical role in establishing technical direction and philosophy for the Qualus organization, and must possess high technical competence and have the recognition of his peers within the company and industry.

  • Familiar with power system analysis software such as TARA, PSSE, PSCAD, and/or Powerworld.

  • Familiar with Feasibility Studies, System Impact Studies and Transmission Service Request Studies.

  • Ability to run special studies such as EMT Studies (subsynchronous resonance, transient overvoltage, transient recovery voltage, etc.), BlackStart, and Dynamic Stability Studies.

  • Familiar with inverter based generation modeling (generic and user-written PSSE models and PSCAD models)

  • Effectively simulate and analyze the performance of the client’s transmission and generation systems and their limitations and strengths under normal and emergency operations.

  • Provides leadership by assigning and reviewing projects or job tasks and mentoring of less experienced consultant engineers.

  • Delegating, planning, prioritizing and reviewing the work of the other consultants will be critical.

  • Must be able to justify strategy and analyses recommendations through documentation and data to audience of.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (not engineering technology program) from an ABET accredited program. A Master’s degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S engineering degree.

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years engineering experience.

  • Professional Engineering registration required. Professional Engineering registration in the working state a plus.

  • Knowledge of power system analysis and modeling techniques.

  • Must have PSSE, E-TRAN and PSCAD experience.

  • Must have strong analytical and computer skills.

  • Must have strong written and verbal skills.

  • Familiar with load flow and power concepts.

  • Independently performs assignments with instructions limited to results expected.

  • Lead level coaches and communicates with other team members to implement objectives.

  • Plans and assigns personnel for projects and tasks.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to forge consensus in a diverse group.

  • Possess ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of support personnel.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Job will generally be performed in an office environment, but may require travel to visit a Client’s office and job sites.

  • When performing outside Qualus office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Qualus and/or Client as required.

  • While performing duties of this job, would occasionally require to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects and tools.

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
