Job Description

Jupiter, a second restaurant from the team behind King, will celebrate the generous simplicity of regional Italian food and drink in New York’s iconic Rockefeller Center. Located at the North Side of the rink, the restaurant will become an essential part of Midtown’s new “town square” with its focused menu of antipasti and pasta, aperitivo and wines, and King’s signature warm hospitality.

Jupiter is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to join our opening team. The ideal candidate is a committed hospitality professional who is enthusiastic, detail-focused, and empathetic, and who has a deep commitment to building a strong workplace culture.

The AGM will work with the General Manager and Jupiter Ownership to ensure service standards are met, and will guide the restaurant in refining and maintaining systems for inventory, ordering, staff scheduling, event planning, and maintenance.

Along with the rest of the management team, AGM will be responsible for establishing a workplace culture that is warm, professional, and energetic, and guided by a shared respect for our work and for one another.


The Assistant General Manager’s responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the front-of-house team before, during, and after service to ensure that we are meeting high standards of service.
  • Helping to oversee inventory, ordering and scheduling for front-of-house operations.
  • Administering and refining SOP’s for daily restaurant operations, including: POS upkeep, ordering, internal and external email communication, budgeting, and storage.
  • Overseeing Jupiter’s public-facing and online presence, and ensuring accuracy on Google, Resy, IG, voice mail, and other venues that feature hours of operation and important information.
  • Developing and refining systems for staff training and education, as well as offering ongoing feedback, and creating pathways for professional development.
  • Active involvement in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training new staff.
  • Modeling inspired hospitality for front-of-house staff by being a dynamic presence on the floor.
  • Contributing to employee training materials, and participating in the ongoing process of training, coaching, and developing our hourly staff.
  • Opening duties, including but not limited to: leading pre-shift meetings, liaising with the kitchen to stay informed on menu changes and service notes, adjusting staffing according to cover counts and spread of reservations, ensuring service staff and dining room are prepared for service.
  • Active participation during service, including directing the flow of service, providing direction and delegating responsibilities, running food and beverages, and communicating with the kitchen and door teams. Overseeing service and attending to technical or facilities issues as they arise. Taking steps to course correct any negative guest experiences.
  • Closing duties, including: recording staff tips and hours, reconciling cash, writing service recap, checking service team closing duties and performing a final walkthrough of the restaurant.
  • Recognizing and cultivating relationships with current and future regulars (Friends of Jupiter).
  • Helping to develop systems and resources such as opening and closing checklists, supply pars, etc. that will contribute to the overall efficiency and organization of the restaurant.
  • Creating a positive work environment and strong bridge between front-of-house and back-of-house teams.

Qualified Service Director candidates will have:

  • At least 2 years of management experience in a fine dining setting.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • A high degree of organizational focus and an interest in building out efficient systems.
  • Extensive food and beverage knowledge and a commitment to learning more.
  • An ability to lead with empathy.
  • A strong capacity to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and to make decisions that are in the best interest of the restaurant, our guests, and staff.
  • NYC DOH Food Protection Certification and an ability to establish and enforce best practices for maintaining the highest standards of health and hygiene for the restaurant.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace suite, MS Word, and Excel.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, lifting up to 50
pounds, sitting, standing, for 5 to 10 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working
